S. D. McTate, was elegant in conception and beautiful in ex pression. It caused the most pro found feeling of reverence for our lamented dead. Col. II. T. The visiting military -consisted of thee four companiea. RE3IARK3, SCENES, INCIDENTS, ETC. ' One of the reminiscences of the occasion is the display of the flag of ' the Cth N. C. Kegimcnt which did j such gallant fighting at Gettysburg. The flag was saved at Appomattox by Col. S. Mc. 'D. Tate, who, to day; presented it to the State of North Carolina. i The decorations of the speaker' platform arid other arrangements are of the most tasteful design and reflects much credit upon the ladies and others who prepared tbem. I J NOTES AND INCIDENTS; I -1 ' 1 . The visiting companies were met atthfl depot by the gallant Govern ors Guards and well taken care of. The battle worn flag of the 480 North Carolina Regimentwas brought to the city by ColJ E. V. Hill who was its cdlonel. It was dis played this morning in f r(ntt of the Court House and attracted great at tention. . ! The Wake county confederate as sociation was headed by Col. Hall, with the scarred flig of the gallant 43th Regiment. .Many business and other houses are decorated with confederate flags' and bunting. The opening address of Mr. Wal ter Grimes was highly applauded. Col. Jujlian S. Carr, of Durham, occupied a seat on the platform to- . day. The "Old North State Forever" was rendered in splendid stylo and drew forth much applause. The cadets of the A. & M. College numbered 100 arid presented a hand some, soldierly appearance.
